From Classroom to Factory Floor: The Collaboration Between Rion and ORT Braude College

April 9, 2025

Becoming a mechanical practical engineer at ORT Braude requires a 500-hour internship. Rion has trained several students, some of them were hired after graduation as full-time employees

The tech world is advancing rapidly, but one thing remains constant—the need for skilled hands in the industry. In an era where vocational training is declining, partnerships between academic institutions and industrial companies are more critical than ever. That’s where the collaboration between ORT Braude College and Rion comes in, offering students a golden opportunity to gain hands-on experience while still in college.

Connecting Education with Industry Experience

As part of the program, students training to become mechanical practical engineers complete a 500-hour practical internship at Rion, gaining professional experience while receiving pay.

The hands-on training gives students direct exposure to the production floor and an up-close look at the injection molding process. The internship can lead to permanent employment when talent and potential are identified.

The Success Story of our Setup Technician Nuwar Haddad

This year, for the first time, a woman—Nuwar Haddad—joined the production floor as part of the internship program. She began as a production worker but quickly demonstrated outstanding abilities and was promoted to a setup technician. In this role, she’s responsible for adjusting the machines and supplemental equipment during material changes to ensure top-quality output.

“I wanted to join the setup technicians department, and after a few weeks on the production floor, I started learning the ropes”, Nuwar shares. “It took me another month and a half to pass the qualification test and start working independently. My job at Rion is exactly what I was looking for—I face challenges, learn something new every day, and most importantly—I come to work with a smile”.

Ido Romano, head of the setup technicians department, is proud of her progress: “Nuwar is a great example of someone with initiative who learns quickly and shows high capability. I hope we’ll see more women entering this field in the future”.

Mutual Benefit: Students Gain Experience, the Company Grows

This collaboration benefits not only the students but also Rion, which gains skilled and well-integrated employees. “Colleges are an important source of trained manpower, especially given the shortage of skilled professionals in our country”, explains Rion CEO Ofir Ram. “We see this as a long-term investment—bringing in new employees, promoting workforce diversity, and preserving local industrial know-how”.

Ofir also emphasizes the importance of opening doors for women on the production floor: “Nuwar’s success proves that women can thrive in technical roles, and that’s a trend we’re committed to advancing”.

A Career Path in the Industry

For students, the internship is a golden opportunity to break into the professional world and get real-world experience. “I recommend this program to every student”, says Anas Grabli, who interned at Rion and later joined our setup team. He has now been a full-time employee for six months. “I gained a deep understanding of the field, and the program really strengthened my connection to the industry”.

The partnership between ORT Braude College and Rion is a living example of how academy and industry can join forces to create a better future. Students get the chance to prove themselves, companies gain employees with real-life experience, and together they’re building a new generation of skilled professionals. With success stories like Nuwar and Anas, there’s no doubt this program isn’t just shaping careers—but the very landscape of tomorrow.
